  • June 1-5   Mom and Dad went to Elmer Swanson's funeral and I made a fast trip to see friends Anita and Lorraine before we headed south!  We went to Kyleigh's soft ball game in Kearney and had a late supper with Kent and Shawna on their patio..  Kyleigh played really well and scored several hits!  She also was catcher and did a fantastic job!  We were proud of her!  We made it back to Shareen's about midnight!  Spent Friday with Shareen, Dalya and Dalton and got some real cute pictures of the grandbabies!  We met Mom and Dad in Newport for supper.  I went home with Mom and Dad  for the night!  Saturday we got up early and went down to the pastures to check cattle and look out over the lake on Herrington Mountain!  A Mountain of Sand that looks over a big area...  We stopped by Bill and Beck's and visited with them for awhile!  They are preparing for the big wedding in the fall already!  We left for Lincoln and made it in around 5:00 to stop and visit with Gordon and Dorothy.  Cousin Judy came in and was surprised to see us!  We had a great visit as usual! Sure do miss those fine folks!  We made it to Nebraska City around 9:00 and spent the night!  Leona and I headed out early and we made it back to Tulsa about 2:00.  It was great to go but even better to come home! ha  Today I am catching up on a multitude of projects..  Come back soon! For some more pictures!

  • June 6   Allison and Sheila came by and it was great to see them!  We got a surprise rain storm and collected almost an inch of rain total!  I am starting to get caught up on various projects, sure glad that I mowed until dark last night!  Justin and Lori came by late last night and brought Jazz home from her two weeks of training!  So I braved her back again and went checking for heats in the pastures!  So far with over 100 head AI bred Abbie has only rebred five.. So possibly the breeding went well this year!  He was right on with the farmers almanac this year!   Jazz was a handful the first pasture but after coming back we did some lounging on the long line for awhile and after that she handled pretty well in the next two pastures.  She is still pretty homesick for her buddies but finally accepted me for company! ha  Abbie is organizing his semen tanks and almost has them all ready for the next big breeding!  I hope that is this fall! ha  Seems like someone new calls every day that wants cattle bred!  I am ready to turn out some lazy herd sires around the place!  We got a call from our friend in Bay City Texas today that will drop by on Friday!  We are expecting friends and customers from Arkansas and North Carolina this weekend!  Never a dull moment around this place! ha  We wouldn't have it any other way! ha  Come back soon friends!

  • June 7-11  A busy week of mowing, mulching and setting up cattle for the flush coming in few weeks!  Several nights I worked until dark putting out mulch around the trees, shrubs and flower beds!   Abbie rode Jazz to check heats one afternoon!  I needed a picture of that!  He says we will go riding together someday!  Sure hope that someday gets here soon before we are permanent fixtures in a wheel chair!  We got the trailer lettering done on Friday and it looks good!  I picked up Morgan and she spent the weekend with us.  She got all the cattle washed and groomed each day!  Vann and Jarrod got here early Saturday morning and we had a great visit with them!  They brought us some Angus - Braunvieh half blood heifers out of a couple of bulls they got from us.  Arlis came by and picked up his half blood bull in the morning!  Debbie and Lauren came by to check out the pastures of calves!  Great to see them and Debbie's Dad Sam!  The folks from Arkansas made it about 8:00 and we had their heifer calf named Miss TLC Gold On Gold in the barn under the fan's and misters..  We weaned her a couple of days ago with the other bunch!  She will find a great new home and a little girl named Taylor that will love her to death!  Taylor by the way walked away from Cattle Camp with three awards and lots of prizes!  She said she had a blast and we found out that Roxane was one of her advisors!  We made it to the truck stop for supper late!  Today we had a oven breakfast of sausage and eggs before we checked out all the pastures of breeding stock! Maybe today we can rest some and enjoy a calm Sunday for a change! Right?  Oh yes I forgot Mark is bringing his cows over to AI breed tonight!  Will we ever get done breeding cows? Not!  I swear Abbie isn't happy if he doesn't have a cow to breed each hour or day! ha  I say.... TURN THE BULLS OUT!

  • June 12-16  A busy week of preparing cattle.  Madison came on the 15th and has been helping with the show cattle.  She brought her two head along so they could stay cool under the fans and misters..  So this morning we washed eleven head of cattle.  We are headed to Brian's tonight to get feet trimmed... We are having a good time.  Our friends from New Mexico will be here on Sunday!  Looking forward to seeing those folks!  So we got all the beds washed and the refrigerator stocked up again!  The Super 8 Thorne Motel is open for business...ha  We have a good chance of rain this weekend.   We are dry again!  Over 90 degrees each day for the past week!  I dug a hole for a tree yesterday and it was bone dry for a foot down!  I planted a couple of new Pear trees.  One at the entry where the tree died.

  • June 17-20  Where do I start on this past week?  Busy would be the words!  Richard and Deniece Mitchell made it from New Mexico and they selected a Meyer son for their cow herd..  Great folks that we enjoyed immensely!  I can't wait to visit them someday at their place in the mountains!  Madison and David came by and Madison is helping prepare show cattle.  It was grand central station on Monday morning as we flushed the last donors for the spring.  It was trailers in and trailers out all day.  We survived though and that is all that counts! ha  It's midnight and I am catching up on new pictures taken of the show steers and heifers...  Madison and Morgan my M & M girls both helped me take some new pictures...  They are great help and fun to have around the ranch... doing odd jobs!  Scooping up behind the 12 head of show cattle under the fan's and misters!  Of course it takes a golf cart to encourage them sometimes..ha   Stop back soon for some actions shots!  I have lots of new pictures to show.

  • June 21-27   A wild wild week at the Junior Braunvieh National Show in Texarkana Arkansas...   The main crew left here at 1:00 in the a.m. on the 22 nd to make it to the Four States Fair grounds by 6:30 in the morning...  A good six hour drive from here!  Dave and Cousin Judy Doeschot arrived that evening before and we all got a pretty good nights sleep and then headed south about 8:00 to meet the crew!   Rox came by and did the feeding and checking and we sure were happy she could help us out...  The first day was involved in fire ants attacking the little kids... (hope we didn't bring any of those guest home with us)  the heat was unbearable... think we were all fighting for the fans...any chance we got to walk in front of one.  The day was miserable but the kids raised to the occasion and had fun in all the cattle games...  Morgan and Madison made us all proud with their Grand and Reserve Grand Showmanship,  Kylie and Alexander with Grand and Reserve Grand Showmanship, and Lilly winning Reserve grand Champion Showmanship in the Pee Wee Division.  All is all the TLC Cattle kids made a big impression in the show ring!  Very polite and displayed their cattle to best of their ability!  You all made us very proud and the TLC cattle looked great!!  Jim and Lexi Overby came by and picked up the little angus heifer on Friday.  They had purchased her from us before she was ready to wean so it was a great place to meet.  We all headed to the BBQ place for lunch and the air conditioning was the best course for that meal! ha  All the results are on the News Page from the show!  To make a long story short we excelled in both divisions..  The Fullblood Purebred Division and the Percentage Division!  Dr. Lorna Pelton was the judge and she did a great job of sorting through the classes.  We were all impressed with her patience and support for the little kids that were learning..  Very nice lady!  Thank you to Stephanie and Steve Nelson for all your hard work and Mark Fullenwiler for the great facility!   Thank you to all the Braunvieh kids and parents for your participation..  You all are great kids showing and promoting a great breed!  We pulled back into the ranch about 7:00 on Saturday night.. exhausted and deliriously happy!  Abbie had to come back home due to a tree falling on a fence line so he didn't get to see the show but we kept him informed blow by blow! ha  He was glad to see us home!  The cattle were especially happy to get home and it was hard to say good bye to the three adopted girls.. I have called the M&M Girls!  Morgan and Madison!  And of course our little adopted Pee Wee, Lilly Lynch!  Who said she liked having another grandmother!  ha  Especially one who liked cows like her! ha  You got to love these kids!  They really are special!   Cody Cole, Kylie Haney, Victoria and Alexander Coleman, Bradley Childers, Brilan Oxtoby, Megan Pitts were a few of the kids that exhibited  cattle from TLC genetics...  You made us proud!  Great job of announcing David Doeschot!  Very professional job well done!

  • David and cousin Judy came back by and we had a lovely day recuperating on Sunday. Monday we  got a couple of pastures in to doctor some fescue foot calves and then loaded up cull cattle to take to Joplin Regional for the sale!  We had a great lunch at the Olive Garden in Joplin.   We then headed over to Claremore to partake the Will Roger's Museum..  We had a great time together as usual and my only complaint is that they don't live closer to us so we can get together more often!  They packed up and left the Thorne motel this morning headed back to Nebraska land!  The house is way to quiet again!  The washing machine and the dish washer are over loaded and Abbie is preparing to work cattle.. so guess it's back to the norm around here!  Looks like we will alter some bull to show steers and do some dehorning today!  If you all don't have anything to do just drop by!  We may have a mountain oyster feed in a few weeks! ha

  • June 28- 31  Catching back up on several projects after the trip to Arkansas.  We had plenty of company stop by in between.  Still really dry here.  We are hoping and praying for rain.   Wishing Mom a happy birthday on the 28th!   Nick a Happy Birthday on the 27th!  We don't have any hired help now so it's just Pa and Ma Kettle here!  Our hired hand decided to go south!  We have been doctoring several with sore feet.   We got almost all the bull calves cut now and then it was doctor them for a few days.   Someone always seems to have a sore something around here!  Pray the Lord we don't get sick!  Don't suppose the cows will doctor us anytime soon!  Although they might have to pay the bill! ha

  • Morgan spent the week with us and she had various projects!  Painting the road sign calf and helping wash and scoop up behind the show heifers.    It's a full time job when you have 8 head in the barn under the fans and misters.   The new recruits are coming along well!   Our next show will be in Springfield MO.  I am dreading it already!
