"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up and totally worn out, screaming 'WOO HOO! - What a Ride!''   - Author unknown

May you be in Heaven an hour before the Devil knows you're dead.

  • June 1-2  Storms on Saturday night again.  It missed us and went to the north.    I mowed the yard, sprayed thistles, and ran the new bush hog and clipped on pasture 15 until it was time to meet Vincent and Nancy for supper on Sat. night.  We had an unexpected flat tire on the silver truck and that was an episode to get that spare tire out from under the truck.  Sure glad I didn't have to use it on all my cattle excursions.  I would never have figured it all out.  No wonder they don't steal them from underneath. The owner can't even steal it!  It took a rocket scientist to figure out all the gadgets that hook it together.  I can't imagine doing it in the dark.  An angel of mercy showed up to help us, and he lived close by so he came with two floor jacks and a flash light too.  Isn't it amazing when it can look pretty gloomy how someone can fill it with the light of hope!  Thank you kind sir! We finally made it to supper at Darlene's and thankful they hadn't closed the doors at 9:30.

  • Today is calm and not a lot of sunshine but that is better than 60-70 mile an hour winds they got in Tulsa yesterday.  We are happy they blew out before they got to us! Bryce is coming out today to help me roundup several pasture fence lines and around the yard.  The answer to weed eating. ha  With all this rain the grass as exploded.  Several folks in the area are haying their first cutting.  We on the other hand are too busy with cattle.  We pull 120 cidars today and will AI breed on Thursday.  About half will be recipients for the flush next week!  So it's cows in and out of the chute for days now.

  • June 3-7  A busy week of A I breeding cows.  We ran around 60 head through and were done by about dark on Thursday.  Kyle got to A I some too!  I spent most of my time loading guns!  Semen guns! ha  It went pretty well for the three of us and we loaded up and headed to Pryor for a late supper after chores!  We made it to Chilli's this time and the boys cooked again!

  •  Mark and Judy Bethel brought the mower back repaired yesterday.  We had a great visit too.  Nice folks!  I went out and finished mowing the acres.   I have been mowing every chance I get to catch up!    I had blown a drive shaft on one of the blades!  I am hard on lawn mowers! ha  But not near as hard as Dear Abbie is with his land mines he plants for me!  That sledge hammer will never be the same! ha

  • We got wind and more rain.  Mostly more wind!  But we were saved again by the grace of God.  I spent a good part of a day just picking up branches that had been weakened by the ice storm in December.  Every limb is brittle to the bone after that incident.  Kyle has been clipping pastures!  I mowed with the new bush hog until we had a water hose break on the engine!  We are slowly getting the fescue clipped! Sure makes the pastures look better!

  • We made it over to the OK Junior Cattlemen preview show in Stillwater OK, this morning and part of the afternoon.  Brock and Cody were showing heifers and steers.  They did well and we were all proud of them.  We stopped in at Eskimo Joe's so Kyle could see that Stillwater College attraction.   Then we headed down highway 51 past Olympic Hall of Famer, Jim Thorpe's Yale town and onto Freddie's for an early supper.  Kyle even got some of his favorite food Alligator!  Those Gator fan's do like their gator meat! ha  It wasn't half bad! ha We made it home about 5:30.  I finished up the lawn and here I am trying to remember all that happened this past week!  We have folks driving in from East Texas in the afternoon to pick up the Oliver steer tomorrow.  Sure hope they have a safe trip!

Jordan and Frank Godeaux

The Godeaux family from East Texas picked up Oliver!  We had a down pour last night and the bridge was covered up this morning clear over the fence posts.  We met the Godeaux family at the truck stop for breakfast at 7:00.  They followed us home and loaded and headed south.   We went to Pryor at lunch time to pick out the house paint color again!  I don't know it looks pretty much the same color we picked out before! It always looks different on than in the can! ha.    We still have big fluffy rain clouds over head so chance of more rain tonight.  All the creeks are flooding around us!  Sure glad we live on top of a hill!

  • We received a good joke from a friend that I think you will get a kick out of.. Since I am older than dirt this really fits somehow.   See below!

  • June 10-11  Tuesday was spent in town most of the day.  It was gopher day!  Gopher this and gopher for that!  The guys loaded up three tires to drop off to get fixed.  I picked up the hose for the tractor at the John Deere place.  Picked up groceries and supplies!  Stopped off at the Auto repair place to get the new relay on the silver truck light switch.  Do they make anything to last anymore?  Today was a busy day!  I got the mutts clipped and bathed before lunch.  Justin came and we got all the nags feet trimmed again!  Jaycee had lost a shoe in the mud I suppose!  I then washed and blew out the four show heifers.  Kyle was clipping pastures and Abbie was cleaning the chute room!  He went by several times with a wheel barrow full of good stuff!  I had planned on going to ride with my Ya Ya sisters at Claremore at 6:00, but just didn't have the energy to hook up the truck and trailer!  So instead I saddled up Wily and Tee and rode at home!  I first lounged them and then crawled on!  Nothing to worry about they both walked off like nothing was the matter.  I am a little skeptical of any horse that has not been ridden in about six months!  This is the first time since Wily had the nail in his foot that he had a saddle on his back!  Brother Bill said he just stays broke!  My kind of horse! ha  Kyle finished up over north clipping another pastures so he climbed up on Wily for a ride!  He got along great with him!  So now maybe I will have someone to ride with me, that is if we can find a saddle that is complete around here!  They are all dried up and hard from years of hot and cold weather.  Kind of like me all dried up, hard and cold!  Yep that's what old age does to you!  Doesn't treat you with kindness that is for sure!  Oh well, guess there are a whole lot more oldies besides me still kicking around!! We all should be happy to be in relative good shape! Please keep our friend Malinda Bowman in your prayers!  She is under going more cancer treatments in Tulsa.  She is the most positive person I have ever met.  She has been through so much in the past year and she doesn't deserve such pain.  She is one of the sweetest gals you will ever meet! Prayers also sent to the Hollenbeck family.  Two really special ladies, Bobbie and Beanie passed away in the past couple of weeks!  Both were some of our rodeo family when I was growing up!

  • June 12  Flush day!  I saddled up Wily early and we had three pastures moved to the barn by 9:00.  Dwight and Ty got here to flush four donors.  We had a relatively good day and they transferred a bunch too!  Windy and humid weather here!  Hot and muggy too you don't stay out long and not sweat today!  Here is a picture of Kyle and Wily last night.

  • June 13-14  Friday the 13th went okay.  I worked on pictures for the display board and we needed some stuff from Wally world so we had supper in Pryor.  Kyle actually cooked tonight! ha  We had oriental food!  It's a pretty day today at least the wind is not blowing 90 miles an hour.  Took a few pictures the other night of Linse who is the spoiled kid in the barn.  She is coming along and will be in the show ring not far off!  She is a Turk baby and we are pretty proud of her so far! ha  He sure stamps a cocky and curious attitude on them.

(L) Kyle walking with the recruits behind the tractor.  (R) TLC Turks Linse.  Out of a first calf heifer named TLC Linde that Morgan showed last year.

  • June 15-16  Rained again this morning!  It's a muggy 91 degrees out today!  Grilled up pork chops for the guys today.  We spent a real relaxing day for a change.  I was going to go out and bush hog but the air is not working in the tractor and Abbie thought I might have a heat stroke! ha  I worked on our friends Franklin and Brenda Jones web site today as they had moved their site to a new host on me!  Check them out!  Great people from Central Texas!

  • June 17-23  To say we had a good time in Texas at the 9th Junior Braunvieh Nationals would be an under statement.  The four daughters and their families met us there to help us participate.  Justin, Dalton and Dalya from Nebraska.  Kyleigh came for moral support and baby sitting services of the little one's that are too young to pull around a calf. Phillip, Clayton and baby Olivia from North Carolina.  Logan and Baby Grace live at Cleburne so they were not far away! Brock came with Cody, Kyle and me with the cattle.  We went from 67 degrees and rain storms to hot 95 degrees and dry conditions all in one day.  Everyone made it safely though and we had a great time.  The little one's managed to lead a calf in the Pee Wee Divisions too.  So everyone got a ribbon and a big smile.  Of course we were the "Thorne" in everyone's side again.  The kids did really well the Obstacle Course, Quiz Bowl, Showmanship, and the Show on Saturday was almost more than my heart could handle!  We were so proud of the little guys how they handled their heifers!  Brock, Justin and Phillip rose to the occasion.  You can see the results at the News Page.  I sit up late last night to try and find a decent picture to put on.  My camera is having problems for some reason.  So was lucky to get what I got.  The low light in the arena was part of the problem, but the refreshing air conditioned facility kept us all pretty relaxed.  It was out with the cattle that it got warm!  Even with five fans on six head of cattle it was warm.  Kyle and Cody were great help and they took over the charge of caring for the cattle.  Much better help than I have ever had at a Junior Nationals.  Last year after putting up with cool rooms, whining mothers and obstinate kids I had almost decided to quit trying to support the event.  Thank heavens our grandkids are getting old enough to take the reins.  Kendall laughed and told me that he thought we would be starting to look towards retirement and then he looked at the stair steps of grandkids and said this is going to go on forever. ha  The only wreck was me and Dalya in the Pee Wee showmanship.  She was latched tight onto the strap and when we turned the corner TLC Gracy decided it was time to bolt.  Crazy thing is she had went through the obstacle course five times the day before with all the youngins and didn't attempt anything.  To make it a five second ride would about get the action! ha  She bolted and Dalya would not let go of the strap, I tried pushing her out of the way and tripped over her and went for a summersault over her.  I came up and landed on my feet. Gymnastics are not in my sports background but that heifer helped this old grandmother do a floor exercise. ha  I would gage it at about a 7 score! ha  Abbie was standing right there and after I made that heifer back up for about 10 paces to prove to her that she was not dealing with someone that was going to let her get away with the bad behavior I gave her to Abbie and went to console Dalya who had a whole crowd around her.  She is a tough little character and I guess she must have some of my genes to hang onto that strap that hard! ha She got a worse bruise on her head from a table later that night! I hope that the action didn't get caught on video tape! ha  I will be buying it back at the next Junior Nationals in the State Baskets! ha  Knowing all those poor souls that we irritate so much with our kids and cattle! ha  We went with the intentions of having a good time and that is what we had.  Shareen and Wade brought me an awesome Oak Windmill for a mothers day gift and we ended up adding it to the State Basket and of course it cost us $200 to get it back!  It all went to a good cause though!  Stephanie you did a great job as always and you put a lot of hard work into the program! We Salute You!  Congratulations to all the kids that participated and all our kids that pulled TLC cattle we were extremely proud of how you presented yourself and the cattle. Zach, Brittney, Sydney, Cody, Rashele, Reighly, Justin, Phillip, Brock and Kyle.  We were so pleased with your performance we stopped off and purchased a First Class Show Rig for Thorne Ranch Cattle Kids for next years transportation to Lincoln NE where the 10th Annual Junior Nationals will be held!  I think we can hold about 15 in good comfort!  Sure hope the air works! Won't our aluminum show trailer look good hooked up! ha

  • We are now home and trying to sort out all the stuff!    Brian, Kyle and Cody took the cattle home after the show and that was so appreciated so we could spend a little more time with the kids and their families.  We went to the Dinosaur Park afterwards.  We went from Cows and Dinosaurs that also have forked toes!  The kids got sandy, wet, tired and then we had a great Thorne Beef Burger at Jeffrey and Diann's.  We made it home to OK by 6:00 on Sunday evening! Kyle had the cattle all relaxed under the fans and misters when we got home. He has been a God send for us this year!  Sure hope we can find another intern half as good as Kyle.  Robinson family we would adopt your young man if you will send us the papers!

  • It rained here last night and still cloudy!  Nice to be home and our friend Sharon from New Jersey will be here sometime this week!  We may have to rent a pontoon boat to look at all the cattle.  Abbie and Kyle haven't stopped long to get bogged down!  They put in cidars and pulled cidars for more cattle to breed last night and today.  When we got home last night here was Lance and Jane in the yard with more recips for their flush!  Do we ever slow down?  Not often!  Nationals was our summer vacation again!

Brock, Phillip, Clayton and Justin in the line up. The grandkids in the back yard at Jeffrey and Diann's! Annie, Brock, Madison and their cousin Allison.  This is what it is all about making memories for kids!
  • June 24  It's hot and muggy here today! I got part of the mowing done and attacked the laundry piles yesterday. Friend Sheila came by last night and we cruised around the pastures looking at the cattle.  She thought we had progressed quite will with our breeding program.  It's not done over night that is for sure.  It takes a lot of planning and plain hard work to continue to keep up with trends in the cattle industry.  We have always tried to stay moderate in all categories.  Being extreme in any category will get you into trouble real quick.  We also continue to base all our faith in our momma cows.  Larry Struthoff commented that Annie had to have a tremendous female for a mother as he had never seen a Polled Lighting that good.  Sometimes things click and thanks to our friend Roger's suggestion it happened that way! ha  Sometimes a higher judge in the sky has something to do with it too! Brock held everyone in amazement at his showing skills!  He handles his cattle way beyond his years.  Marilyn said she would like to see him up against the seniors! ha  Well he was up against the seniors in the final drive!  We all were so proud of him.  When he saw that he was getting covered up by another exhibitor and he just pulled Annie out and stuck her in front! ha  Way beyond his years! ha  The good Lord takes care of little children! Justin has shown horses but not cattle so we were really impressed with him learning so quickly how to place their feet and handle his heifer Carolyn.  Philip got to show at KY last year and he picked right up what he had to do again this year and he and heifer Gracy got along really well.  Now he wants to get their two Braunvieh heifer calves broke to lead that they have back home in North Carolina.  Dalton has a Charolais bucket calf at home and now he wants to break it to lead! ha  We are planting little seeds with these kids and someday they will have a big crop of great memories.

June 22- Happy Belated Birthday... Fire Cracker Mike!

From one Fire Ball to another Fire Ball!

We hope you had a great relaxing Birthday on Sunday after a week at the Junior Braunvieh Nationals.  We sure are glad that you dressed up for the occasion and we had a camera ready for the picture!! ha   We appreciate all you do for our cattle program!  The Diamonds in the Rough Cattle string were presented awesomely again.   Salute, Uncle Sam!

  • June 25-28  Happy Birthday Jane, Nick and Mom!  Hope you all had a great day!  A busy week of catch up.  Mowing the yard, laundry and unpacking.  I finally picked up groceries and more print cartridges!  Jane and Jon stopped by for a visit on Tuesday night! Sharon and Errin Duddy from New Jersey made it for lunch on Wednesday.  We toured the pastures and had a great visit and then caught Tee and Wily.  Loaded and went to Rita's for Ya Ya Sisters Trail Ride.  We had 12 Riders and the trails were in good shape.  Only one water gap that was slippery.  We all had a good visit and lunch! Sharon and Errin left to go back to OK City where Errin is in training for the reining derby.  She used to show jumpers and fell in love with reining after she tried it.  We are already planning on them coming back for another trail ride someday!  Abbie and Kyle have been busy with breeding the cows that came back in from the first round of A I breeding.  Not many but enough to keep them getting cows out and up to the barn.  Kyle is getting better at breeding and feeling pretty confident now.  You can't learn unless you do it!  No one can tell you how to do it, kind of like riding a bike.  Once you get it you get it! ha

  • The Ted Lithicum crew came by this morning from Welch to pick up donor medicine that they didn't have for their next flush.  We always seem to have an excess around here.  I took six head of cull steers the stockyards at South Coffeyville, OK on Friday and stopped back at the Diamonds to pick up semen and drop off the backdrop I made for them.  Mike had 13 head lined up for the trip to Kansas City.  They all looked great!  We have high hopes for Rashele, Reighly and Blake!  They are also taking one of our Maine Anjou heifers, a Maintainer and a couple of Chi heifers too.  I got home and we had company from Chouteau.  Mathew Jones and Larry Crisp came to look at the cattle.  Mathew selected Paragon for his Angus cows.  Nice guys and they will be back to pick up Paragon next week.  They were interested in heifers too.  These high fuel prices have sure put a dent in folks shopping for cattle.  Plus in several places they are dry.  Hard to believe as we got rain yesterday and again today!  It's cloudy over north tonight possible chance of showers! I took Annie back to Brock today and picked up medicine for the cattle at Brian's.  I think she was happy to get back to Brock.  He was happy to have her back too.  They make a great team! Picked up stuff at the Tractor Supply for the horses and came home to spray some more thistles I saw the other day when we were cruising the pastures.  Trimmed up some bushes and clipped all the dead roses off.  Also picked a couple of volunteer cucumbers in the flower bed!  Kyle and Cody have been getting together and they went to the movie theatre tonight.  Gosh wouldn't it be nice to be young again and actually have a Saturday night date? ha

Rita is always the perfect trail and snack hostess.

Errin and Sharon from New Jersey.

Mathew Jones buys bull.  Thank You!

  • June 29-30  Sunday was a pretty relaxing day.  The guys have been busy with cattle.  I sprayed thistles in the pastures and mowed the yard into the dark hours.  But it will be done for another week hopefully! We took a new picture of TLC Ali's Vincente today.  He had not been on a halter since Ft Worth so he thought he was pretty untouchable for awhile.  Plus he has been breeding some selective cows so he thinks he is beyond being a show bull again! ha  Kyle stuck him pretty good though and we caught a really nice picture.  You can see him at his very own page now!  We are preparing to A I breed heifers this week!  I cleaned the garage out today and defrosted the freezers so I could load it up with fresh beef.  Nothing quite as good as home grown beef!  We said good bye to Paragon today as he found a new home in Chouteau OK and a pasture of Angus cows of his very own.  How lucky can you get. ha  I get way too attached to them sometimes.   But when they get good homes you can say good bye!  It's when you sell them to someone that does not feed or take care of them that you feel regrets.

Remember to welcome strangers, because some who have done this have welcomed angels without knowing it!  Hebrews 13:2
