Thank you to Dave Steen Commercial Marketing Director of the American Maine Anjou Association for  your dedication in this contest.  If we breeders are going to able to sell bulls we need tests like this to accumulate as much data as possible for the BEEF Industry as a whole.  We are not just raising show cattle at our ranch!  We want to know what is under that pretty hide too!

Congratulations to Jacob Daily with TLC Otis as

  • 1st Place Braunvieh Class Winner.  TLC Otis was a big 3/4 blood Braunvieh steer sired by TLC Bud and out of a half angus half Braunvieh cow.  Big gentle giant that Jacob learned a lot from this year.  His disposition was wonderful.  The whole family said they enjoyed Otis!

Jacob and Otis

Congratulations to Jessica Stephens with TLC Dictator

  • 2nd Place Braunvieh Class Winner at the Tulsa State Fair. Sired by DJ Dictator and out of a Black Icon daughter this pretty fronted guy was also shown at OK City.  He was not quite ready at OK City so they decided to hold him until Tulsa.   Jessica did a nice job of feeding him and a great job of showing him too!  She can show our cattle anytime!  Thanks Stephens Family!

Both steer had to compete in the AOB Division in the final Division.  To have a breed we need at least 10 head of Braunvieh steers to participate.  We hope to accomplish that someday with the help from great kids and families!

Thorne Ranch at the 2007 Tulsa State Fair!

31 Head of Maintainer Cattle  and 50 Head of Fullblood/Purebred Braunvieh Cattle and 28 Head of Beef Builder Braunvieh Cattle showed up to be evaluated on September 29 and September 30th at the Oklahoma Ford Dealers Barn.

Maintainer Heifer Show and the Beef Builder Braunvieh Heifer Show

Thorne Ranch took 18 head of Beef Builder Braunvieh and Maintainers to Tulsa this year.  This is the first year that we were able to show both classes of cattle.  Most of our cattle are double registered Maine Anjou and Beef Builder/Percentage Braunvieh.  We exhibited 12 head of Beef Builders on Saturday September 29 and 10 Head of Maintainers on Sunday afternoon September 30!  It was two days of marathon showing!  But we survived and the cattle all performed flawlessly.   All our hard work in preparation was well worth it!  It's kind of like taking the kindergarten class on a field trip.   You never know what will happen!

We had three Division winners in the Maintainer Final Heifer Drive.  We were fortunate to have the Grand Champion Maintainer Heifer TLCC Heart of Gold  shown for us by Roger McDowall.  (Fourth heifer)  TLCC Cowboy's Cowgirl was clear left in the picture and shown by Roxane Gebhart.  TLCC Tracinda clear right in the picture was shown by Dana Shrum.    2nd heifer was DRCC Miss Samantha shown by Mike Runner she was selected Reserve Grand Champion Maintainer Heifer.  Rashele Blakley showed DRCC Miss Sherry to Class 6 Division Champion.

Her Dam  GCC 5/8 was 2nd Place Show Dam of the Year with 140 Points.

Thorne Ranch was 5th Place Show Breeder of the Year for the 2nd year in a row.

She was a "Star" from the time she hit the ground... and she has been a explosive heifer in the show ring to watch with her get to business attitude!!  A heifer of this caliber only comes along in some herds once in a life time.   We feel very fortunate to have had the privilege to share her success with the Flying I Ranch.  With your superb show knowledge and handling she has far exceeded our expectations.   Thank you Mark, Suz, Zach, Roger and family!

If you will notice at the top of our web page there is a picture panorama of our cattle and ranch!  In that picture in the middle is Baby Star and her Momma grazing in the pasture.  The picture was taken after she won Calf Champion and Calf Division at Tulsa State Fair in 2005.   We took her off her momma for five days to show.   We brought her home and put her back on her momma until it was time to wean her!   There aren't many heifers that you could do that with and be successful.  It's been fun to watch Star develop and grow into a beautiful female!

We all hope for great things from Star's progeny down the road and in the pasture!
