Welcome to the Adventures of Dear Abbie's Wife

Hello & Welcome to our Diary page.  The purpose of this diary is to record our adventures, folks who stop by, travels and events at the Thorne Ranch.  It was primarily meant for family and friends in the beginning, but we have grown a large number of faithful readers in the past seven years.   Over 90,000 from all over the world have visited us.   We don't intend to offend anyone or to glorify our life here.  It's pretty boring most of the time as you will see!  We are pretty common folks trying to make a living doing what we love, breeding and raising cattle.  Our wish is that someday this Diary will be enjoyed and appreciated by our grandchildren and great grandchildren.  In the mean time we hope you get a few good laughs at our expense.  Learn from the mistakes of others.  You can't live long enough to make them all yourself."   - Joan

October 1  We are home and we look like some of our cattle looked in Tulsa.  Dead tired on our feet!  I made biscuits sausage and gravy for breakfast for Mark and Roger.  One of the heifers got out so they had to recapture her before they loaded up and headed south to Texas.  Before they left I presented Mark with a nice big stone that said,  "I passed my biggest kidney stone yet @ the 2007 Tulsa State Fair."   I am sure he will use it for a stepping stone somewhere on that big ranch of his! ha  He is lucky I kept forgetting the rock or we would have presented it at the show Saturday night.  ha  Now he will get even I am sure! ha  We did get a few things cleaned up and unpacked but the pile looks pretty heavy yet.  I worked on laundry, books, answered phone calls and more phone calls.  Two calls for cattle today, along with family and friends checking up on us to see if we survived.  Our pictures turned out pretty good from the show so make sure to go to the Sept Diary to see several pictures of some famous folks at work at the Tulsa State Fair or the News Page.  We tagged calves in the barn lights until we finally gave up and turned them back together just so we could make sure to get the right babies with momma's.  The heifer on the bottom of the page was the Grand Champion Beef Builder and also the Grand Champion Maintainer for us!  She has been my favorite heifer we raised in the Spring crop last year so that makes you feel good when one that you have high hopes for excels in other people's minds too.  It' s back to the groove of things!  The next 27 head of heavies are going into the calving pasture tomorrow and the pairs will be moved to fresh pasture.  We were really pleased with the performance of the WAR Cowboy heifer calves at the show.  We have several more due this next batch and some are out of our Heifer Donors as natural A. I. calves.  I just came from the barn and feeding the show cattle.  We had to do it in two drafts as we didn't have enough pens for everyone because we had pairs penned up!  They are wondering what is happening as we only had a few in the barn under fans today.   They kind of looked at us like what is up?  Don't we belong in there now?  Aren't you suppose to continue to pamper, comb and pick up behind us?  Such is the cycle of life! ha  Check out the raffle ticket for the Nathan Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund.

October 2 -3 We are finally catching up on some stuff!  We got a big rain yesterday afternoon and there is water standing everywhere.  Tiff came and is helping.  Always great to have an extra hand.   I have been trying to get beds and bathrooms cleaned up for the next crew to come in.  I bet I have washed 10 loads in the past few days trying to catch up on laundry.  The maid didn't even get anything ironed in that time either!  So guess if we need something freshly pressed it will have to happen before we put it on! ha   Sun is out today and really a beautiful day!  Gosh wish we could capture these pretty days for next winter when we will be chilled to the bone again!  Prospect steer show today and Market Steer Show tomorrow.  We hope our kids do well and gain a good experience from their venture with our cattle.  It's not always about the money and big premium if you get selected.  It's how you play the game and what you learn from the experience that is important.  If you correct your mistakes then the next time you will surely do better at what ever you do!  Have an even greater day friends and stop back soon!  Thanks Mike for visiting the Diary!  Glad you enjoy our ramblings!  Happy we finally got to meet you the other night at the show.  Even though I was about half in shock from the show!  We appreciate you all coming to support us!  Friends are like diamonds sent from heaven! God Bless Ya!

October 4-7  A busy week of Steer Show, Premium Sale, OCCA Sale, Junior Heifer Show and we finally made it home for good Saturday night!  So Sunday has been a day of rest!  We got rain early in the morning and it has been cloudy most of the day.  The Steer show on Thursday was fun to watch.  Madison and TLC Bear were selected 2nd in their middleweight class of Angus steers and then picked as 5th Place in the Premium Sale.  Brooke and TLC Redman were selected 4th place in the Shorthorn Middleweight class and then 7th place in the premium sale of 49 head of Shorthorns in the entire show.  So to say we were exuberant does not describe our feelings. ha  So happy for the girls and their families!  Jacob did great with TLC Otis and so did Jessica with her TLC Dictator steer.  Of course we don't have enough numbers to have our own breed but they did well in the AOB class that always seems to be one of the tougher steer classes.  I went shopping yesterday before the Braunvieh Junior Heifer show.  Yep it was better than going to Dillard's Department Store.  We now have a couple of nice heifers to add to our breeding program.  Both halter broke and ready to fit into the TLC Cow herd. ha  Abbie actually thought the 2nd heifer I got was better than the one he helped approve. ha   The OCCA sale was okay.  Seemed a little down compared to last year.  I think feed and fuel prices have a lot to do with kids looking for show prospects right now.  Plus several are not quite ready to jump back in yet.  TLC Willy will go to Brooke.  So we look forward to watching him develop like Red Man did for her this past year.  We brought Cara home and know we will find the perfect kid for her.  Steve and Dana were here to greet us last night as we got home!  They hit the Springfield Show and said they had a good time.  Terry and Susan came out for coffee this morning.  I am cleaning bath rooms and doing the never ending chore of laundry.   We had a nice Junior Braunvieh Heifer Show.  Want to thank all those fine parents for making Braunvieh cattle a house hold name.  A few more folks know what a Braunvieh is now thanks to you all!  We did get to see the Draft Horse Pulling Contest for a little while.  What beautiful creatures they are.  They simply intrigue me!  We stopped on our way off the fair grounds to watch the Riders with their pistols as they ride around the ring and shoot balloons.  Looks like it would hurt their horses ears.  I suppose they put ear plugs in their ears for protection I would guess.  The arena was full of blue smoke!! ha  Check out the results from the Nationals Maine Anjou Feed Out.  Where TLCC steers did us proud!  They were half Maine and half Braunvieh.  Out of Black Icon daughters most of them.   Guess we owe Mark Ivey and his beautiful wife Suz a steak supper someday soon after the OSU and A & M game.  We lost by one point!  Probably will have to fly the Burgundy colors for at least a month! ha  What goes on in College Station stays in College Station Right? ha  By the way Mark showed that stone we presented him to his nurses and they fell on the floor laughing.  We hope your on the road to a full recovery soon!  Other wise we are going to have to start calling you Rocky!

Looks like the Nathan Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund is going to exceed all expectations. We donated and added brother Drew's name to the tickets so if we win he gets the heifer.  The little squirt got me good too with his shock lighter.  I thought it was a water pistol!  My dumb! ha I told him I was going to think hard about letting him have that heifer now if we win!. ha  Nathan would be proud to know of all his many friends.  We all wore plastic ducks and shiny necklaces in memory of Nate the past few days.

We put out hay late Sunday afternoon after all the rain.  The pens were a muddy mess again!  Baked up cookies, meat loaf and baked potatoes for supper.  Nice to have a meal at home for a change! ha  Fair food gets old quick!  Where's the BEEF?  Those rib eye sandwiches the Cattlemen's Association sold for $5.00 each were mostly gristle and tougher than whale foder.  They were about as thick as a baloney sandwich too.  The Bun was bigger than the steak!  Wonder what kind of critter they got that meat off from?  Sure didn't impress this beef producer!  Guess I will set up a Thorne Ranch Rib Eye Tent next year and run our Beef People competition! ha  Sure that is all I need another project! ha   Have a great week friends.  Come back soon!

October 8-10  It's been catch up around here for the past few days!  Seems like we are playing that game all the time.  We have had several new calves born.  Mostly bull calves and we are way ahead of bulls again this year.  Clint came early today and we preg checked and weaned calves today.  Gathered almost all the pastures and now we have a real chorus going out in the weaning pens.  Moved cows across to get them off the bales they seem to think they need to tear into.  Even though there is plenty of green grass everywhere.  Today is my twin's birthday!  Happy Birthday Shawna and Shareen! Gosh that seems so long ago but yet just like yesterday they were tiny little imps when we took them home.  I had complications after they were born so I am very lucky to be here visiting with you all!  I guess God had a higher plan for me!  Just think if I had kicked the bucket there would be no daughters named Delynn or Diann.  No Phillip, Clayton, Olivia  Or Logan and Grace?  No Abbie, no Jeffrey, Brian or Whitney in my family!  We all makes choices in our lives and do we really know what is beyond the next curve in the road?  Just go with the flow it wouldn't do you any good to know anyway!  It's called destiny folks!  Anyway you all have a good week!  Sounds like we will have company from Texas and Nebraska this weekend.  So I am trying to get things in order around here!  I at least got the lawn all mowed and the beds washed up! ha  I picked up groceries for the troops yesterday and it was a whole grocery cart full of goodies for Dear Abbie.   He went to the pantry last night and looked in and said where is all the goodies?  My comment!  In the freezer awaiting a cook!   No donuts or candy for awhile! ha  Gosh I baked a German Chocolate cake for him the other day and he is already looking for something else to curb his sweet tooth!  If he doesn't go to the dentist soon he will be soaking his bread to eat it! ha  You know when you buy a horse or a cow you check to see how good their teeth are.  I failed to check that item out on Mr. Thorne when we started dating back some 11 years ago.  He has bad teeth but guess I love him just the way he is even if he is toothless! ha

Peek A Boo!

October 11-12  Two days of playing catch up again!  I am begging to wonder if we will ever catch up around here.  Our lives are not boring that is for sure!   The phone has been ringing off the desk top and my pocket (cell phone) repeatedly about cattle for sale.  At this point I am preparing to go out and take more pictures of the weaned cattle for the web site.  We have had several new calves born too!  Rosebud had a pretty little Hardy bull and we gave him some extra milk last night until him momma's milk totally comes in.  She is a first calf heifer and sometimes they just don't come to their milk for a day or so.  She has some but we thought he needed a little extra so we caught one of the Black Icon daughters that we just weaned her calf off from and she gave us just what we needed good old straight cows milk.  No wonder those calves do so well!  Some of the steers are weighing around 700# right off the cow.  Some of the bawling has gone down and the calves are eager to see us at feeding time.  Tiff came again today to help out.   They got the fence fixed around the house and now we can move the herd bulls to their designated pastures complete with hot wire working this time!  Our south Texas customers should get in here late this evening.  So we have their bed and cattle ready for them.  We have not heard from the Houston customers if they are coming to pick up their steers or not.  Guess we will be ready when they are! ha  You all have a safe weekend and come back soon!  Hope Bobby gets the big Elk of his dreams!  Don't shoot your foot off!

Cousin Deb and her big Elk

Helen of Troy one of our half angus half Braunvieh heifers close to calving.  She was in the cow calf pair a couple of years ago at Tulsa State Fair.

October 13-14  This is cousin Debbie from Nebraska with her big Elk she got recently in Colorado I believe?  Wow don't mess with this cousin she did it in only five shots.  Said she didn't want to chase it through all the trees and brush with it hurt.  Actually we are 3rd Cousins but she is like a first cousin.  Great job Deb and you can cover my back anytime! ha   How about those Cowboys in Husker land on Saturday?  That was surprising.  Guess you all that know me I am not a big football fanatic!  One ball game is pretty much like the last one.  Someone win's and someone looses!  I am not a die hard Big Red fan even though I grew up around some pretty tough company in Husker Land! ha  My Dad even has a signed football from the BIG RED Team that he is pretty proud of!   I just like to see the under dog win once in awhile! ha

I ran over to Claremore for Erica's baby shower in the afternoon.  Nice to get away from the ranch for a few hours.  She got all kinds of neat things for baby girl Boyer.  We hear Matt is still holding out that it might be a boy. ha  That family is going to change dramatically with a new addition.  They just had Corgi puppies and Bella is due to have English Bull Dog puppies next week.   The whole household has gone pretty much canine!  ha   That new baby girl will soon over shadow them all! ha

Sunday was a relaxing day.  I spent most of the morning baking home made cinnamon rolls and Poor Devils Pudding for Abbie Dear.  Something you should do every Sunday is make that treat! ha  It should be called the Lords Pudding instead!  It is heavenly good!  Dates, Pecan's, Vanilla Pudding, and Graham Cracker Crust.   The cinnamon rolls have their own sinful existence! Calories. calories, and more calories! ha  If we can't raise cattle I think I can make us a pretty good living selling cinnamon rolls along the road side! ha  Abbie says they are better than the Fair Cinnamon rolls that cost $6.00 a piece! ha  That would mean a dozen would cost around $72.00?  Wow that is almost pure profit!

Weather is nice and a little breezy today but not bad for the middle of October.   We are still calving out cows!    The Texas bunch didn't make it but will try for Monday.  You never know who is coming for sure.  Terry was out this morning to visit.  Wish that is all we had to do was go around and visit folks!  ha   Of course we don't have all that extra time either.  We would be doing our own thing regardless!  Guess you can call us a little bit independent.  We fly our own flag most of the time! ha

Our sympathy goes out to Rick and Barbara Williams and family.  They lost their son in a tragic motor cycle and train accident recently.   Wish we could say something to ease your pain.  Just know we are thinking and praying for you all!

It's a bird, it's a plane? Nope it's a blimp that flew over Thorne Ranch today

Flowers are pretty this year

October 15  We got rain!  All the pens are a muddy sloppy mess again!  Almost lost my shoes a couple of times this morning while we sorted the steer and bull pens.   We made the cut on what goes and what stays.  So we loaded up 10 head and I hauled them to Joplin Stock yards this morning.   It was cloudy and cool almost all day.  It even rained a little.  I stopped off in Vinita to pick up some supplies for the company coming in tonight.   Jonathan Lane came out today and we put him to work changing out wooden posts in the hot wire fence.  He laughed and said he got it all figured out how to do it easier after he was almost done.  Abbie clipped up the two Purebred Icon son's and made sure they had tattoo's and also knocked of their scurs just to make them look better.  He also tied them up for their second time and now they will be semi halter broke.   We were moving the weaned heifers to fresh pasture and noticed a thing in the sky just west of the house!  It was the Metlife blimp!  Gosh sure is funny to look up and see that strange thing floating into the night!  I wonder if that thing has lights because it was getting pretty dark as you can see in the picture to the left top.

We sold another bull to Texas.  Beat will find a new cowherd of his very own!  We are going to miss that guy.  He is such a big pet and will let you scratch all over him in the pasture.  He even chased me on the tractor and mower this summer wanting to play.  I was trying to avoid chopping off his legs.  ha

We are sending more steers to the Maine Anjou feed out this year.  We picked out three Ali son's and a couple of Contender steers to send.  So now it's find time to deliver them.   I think Joan needs a road trip don't you? ha  I hope to get one of my good friends to make the trip with me as co pilot! ha    Since we know Mr. Thorne has too many chores at home to leave!  He is getting ready for the Fall Flush in November.  Looks to be around 11 head for that day!  So just when you think things will slow down watch out here it comes.   Breeding season! ha

Abbie, Luis and his friends from South Texas.

October 16 -  Luis and his friends made it in about midnight in the fog!  I was working on Duba Trailers web site until they got here!  We were up at daylight cooked up some sausage and sweet rolls for them and then we went out into the damp foggy morning.  We toured around the foggy pastures to show Luis his cattle that he purchased and had a good visit!  He looks way too young to have a 15 year old son. Really nice gentlemen that made a long trip north.  We appreciate your business Luis!  Thank you!   We look forward to the Rio Grande Show in March 2008 when we deliver the rest of his bulls.

Tiff and Jonathan came today so it being a little damp out I suggested that they clean the chute room and do some cleaning.  I am doing books and will run into Pryor this afternoon to do some errands.   Never enough hours in the day it seems to get everything you need done.   I wonder if we will ever get back to that hayfield?    It is not looking good at this point!  Too bad we couldn't take cattle over to mow it down and bale it up and poke it back out on their own! ha

Another group of Texas customers will come in on Friday sometime!  They will load up three steers.  The sun is trying to peak out now so maybe the fog will lift yet!

Congratulations Mark and Rox!  We are happy for you both! Gosh Rox you are too young to marry! ha

Future looks bright  for lots of little Hereford showman!

October 17-20  Wednesday was busy!  Had a gentleman stop by to look at the cattle from Jay OK.  Bill Hobbs is a game warden.   So I immediately thought someone was poaching on us or something!  Not, he was looking for cattle for his daughter to show!  ha  We had just gotten to the house that evening and the door bell rang and it was our neighbor Bass.   We had a cow down over East with her back down hill.   She wasn't due for another two weeks but we didn't save her as she was too far gone already.   She had started to calve too and had the head out and no feet.   Darn it just makes you sick to loose them.  But guess that is the way life is!  If you have cattle you are going to loose one once in awhile no matter how much baby sitting you do with them.

We had our friend Dr. Dean Gilg come in on Thursday morning.  He grew up with my folks and was also our family doctor while I was growing up in Nebraska.  He delivered the four daughters into this world, so he has a very special place in our heart!  He is the man that kept me on this earth when I had complications with toxicity when the twins were born.  We had such a good visit!  Catching up was hard as we had so many stories to catch up on! ha  We took a drive over to Grand Lake and toured around the country side so he could see the area.  Rick and Barbara came to pick up their heifers we bred today!  Mike Rose came by to check out the steers that are left.  Dean took us out for Mexican supper in Pryor!   We made it back home and at 1:30 we ended up going out to gather in a cow that had calving problems.  The head and one foot were exposed but the one foot was tucked under.  Abbie worked and worked but finally got the other foot up and then the calf practically fell out.  Mother and ET Fullblood heifer calf are doing fine!   So I told Doc that she was going to be called TLC Doc's Genia after him and his wife who just passed away a few months ago with Alzheimer's.  Funny how life is ever renewing itself in the hope of new babies and new calves.  Of which we are grandparents again!  Fred William Simms was born on Friday, October 19th, six pounds and 10 oz,  to Whitney and J Fred in New Mexico.  We are happy to welcome our 6th Grandson into the family!   We are now at an even dozen!  Six granddaughters and six grandson's!  Just imagine how our holidays will be filled with little kids for a quite a few years! ha  We can hardly wait to spoil them all rotten!

Friday was a very busy day of folks in and out!  Dean left out for Nebraska and in drove, Harold Broom and Gary Holbrook from Crosby Texas.  They picked up their three steers and headed south before 10:00.  Tiff and Jonathan came and they worked on various projects in between company!  Repeat bull customers Richard drove in at lunch time looking for half angus and half Braunvieh bulls to add to their breeding bulls.  We only have weaned calves at this point and they are too young to use for breeding right now.  So if any of you have any breeding age half Angus half Braunvieh bulls let us know.  I ran the semen tank to Pryor to send back to Tommy Clark and stopped and picked up some groceries!  I got home and here was Steve and Dana running around on the cart checking out the pastures of calves.  Keith and Linda, Abbie's cousin from panhandle of Texas were here visiting too.   Robert and Gracie Goodwin got here about dark and we took them out for catfish supper at the Moore Fish Farm south east of Claremore.  We had a great visit and thank heavens we didn't have a cow to get in to assist with calving tonight.  I was bushed! ha

Today Saturday I am catching up on various projects!  It's time to wash beds and do some book work!   Robert and Gracie got left about 8:30 - 9:00 and they will drive all the way home to the Valley (south Texas) today.  So at this point don't know what will break loose here today!  You never know! ha  As I type I see another pick up and stock trailer pulling in!  Looks like Bob and Karen are here with something! ha  The Daley family came by in the afternoon and picked out a nice steer calf called Harry. Always great to see them!  Come back soon for more adventures!  God Bless and keep you all safe on your journeys in life friends!

Another new calf

October 21-22   We ran over to Oologah last night to check the CL on one of the Blakley donors and checked out Juna's new baby heifer calf sired by Hardy. We had supper with Nanc and Vincent at Darlene's.  The frog legs and catfish were really good!  I remember one time I cooked up some fresh frog legs and they tried moving out of the fry pan! ha  It sure had my daughters wondering and they wouldn't eat them either. ha   Sunday was a little calmer at the ranch today!  Trey Thomas stopped by and checked out the fall babies while we went to get the other John Deere tractor at the lease place so we missed him.  We hauled hay this afternoon and put out hay in all the traps.  Rod came by and visited for a while.  Had not seen him in awhile!

Monday, We got rain today and it's cloudy and bitter cold!  Clint came out and did bangs vaccinating and health papers for cattle that we will be sending to;  Texas, Nebraska, New Mexico, New Jersey and Tennessee.   I got a good head cold and have been trying to whip it the past few days!  I thought it was allergies but think it must be the crud! ha   Brooke and Debbie are headed this way to pick up Willy.  He is such a character.  They are going to have fun with him this coming year.  I leaned over to dump his feed bucket and he bunted me in the back end!  I thought I was going to go air borne! ha

Shawna and Kyleigh

October 23-29 I got the oil changed and scrubbed up the silver truck on Wednesday.  I accidentally hit the lock on the truck when I was cleaning and had to call On Star to unlock it before I left out of here on Thursday morning.  One nice thing about On Star. ha  I left with five steers for the Maine Anjou feed out and headed north to Nebraska!   I made it to Peterson Farms feedlot about dark.  I didn't get too lost! ha  I spent the night with Shareen, Wade, Justin, Dalton and Dalya south of Rose.  I brought early Christmas presents.  Pink and gray boots for Dalya and new western shirts for the boys.  They were a big hit!  We went over to the folks and surprised them next day.  We spent the day with them and had a good visit!  Saturday we loaded up and picked up Shareen, Dalton and Dalya and went to Kearney to visit with Shawna, Kent and Kyleigh.  We went to the Craft Fair at the Fair Grounds.  The deer were on the move so we narrowly escaped a couple of herds moving across the roads.  We dropped them off and headed to Long Pine to have supper with Dean Gilg at the Sandhill's Lounge.  We had a great steak and a great visit and we made it home to the Herrington Ranch about 11:00.  Sunday morning, I loaded up our new member of the family named Wiley the Buckskin at brother Bill's and went the East route out of his place through Holt County.  I stopped and visited with our old neighbor, Jim Boettcher for a minute at his entry.  He was surprised to see me!  I got in behind a herd of cows and calves that some folks were driving down the road south of Gotchall's place.  They were headed in to wean I suppose and new pasture.  They were kind enough to go ahead of me and let me through the 300-400 head of cows.  So that slowed me down some but not bad!   They were all using four wheelers to drive the cattle.  I had a notion to stop and get Wiley out and help them! ha  We made it to Grand Island around noon.  Me, Hally the Schnauzer and Wiley the Buckskin horse!  We made it back to Oklahoma about 9:00 p.m. Road weary and tired of traveling!  I got Wiley unloaded without Abbie hearing me and when he went back out to check the heats of the donors he saw his Birthday surprise! ha  He threatened me only once and had a big grin on his face!

Today is breeding day for the donors.  Bob and Karen came with their cow so I fixed up a good lunch for everyone!  I am still unpacking and trying to acclimate myself back to Oklahoma air! ha  I have Wiley all saddled up and ready to go for a ride so will check back with you all later!  I am sure this new present for Abbie will become more mine than his!  Tee is going to have a heart attack! ha  We have to AI breed the donors again tonight so hope that all goes well.  I get home just in time for all kinds of events!  But it is good to be back!  There is no place like your home!  I feel sorry for all those folks that have lost their homes to fire in California.  That has to be very tough on families!  Come back soon for the next adventure!  Sure hope I don't get bucked off the first day with Wiley!  Don't expect to but you never know! ha  Well I am back and neither of us got bucked off! ha  Abbie got to ride him first and he got along famously with him!  He looks good on a horse!  Some people sit a horse like they were born to them and others couldn't ride a saddle on a sow! ha  He gave him up to me and said let's go gather a twin and find it a new momma.  One lost her calf the other day so that twin will come in handy!  Always seems like the Lord does provide!  Wiley worked so great!  I even had to do some trail riding in the trees to get one cow out and he stepped over logs like he had done it all his life!  This is going to be fun to have another really broke ranch horse!  We also have several grandbabies that are going to learn how to ride on Wiley. ha   Thank you brother Bill and Beck for letting us have such a wonderful horse named Wiley!  If you need a well broke horse brother Bill is the man to see about a horse!  He breaks them oh so well!

October 30-31   We finished up AI breeding donors about 9:30. Bobby and Karen came to pick up their Angus cow and visited.  Tuesday, Tiff came to help gather and catch pairs, tag and vaccinate. Abbie sent me to town after lunch to deliver parts and pick up parts.  Met Carol for tea and we had a good hashing of the cattle industry! ha  Picked up groceries. Got home in time to help take pairs to fresh pasture.  Wiley got into the cockle burrs in his pen and has a real mess of his foretop!  Justin called and suggested WD 40 and also Sheen.  Rita suggested Hair Conditioner and Baby Oil!  I am afraid I will find out tomorrow in the day light what may work!  Let's hope something does!  Doug Shaffer drove in about dark and had supper with us.  He and Abbie had a good visit as usual!  He may spend the night.  Thorne Motel 6!  We'll leave the light on for ya! ha

Happy Birthday granddaughter, Olivia Grace Plott  1 year old on Spook Day!  Wish we could help you celebrate in NC!  I don't suppose we will have any little spooks come by, but just in case we have all kinds of goodies.  Thank you Crow Mountain Farms from Utah for your semen order.  We hope our bulls will add value to your calf crop!  The barns to the right are from my folks place in Nebraska.  They preserved the big horse and hay barn and granary with metal several years ago and they are standing tall and beautiful like they were when they were first built.  On my travels it's sad to see so many beautiful old barns fading and falling into the good earth.  Folks that first homesteaded were more particular about their barns than some of their houses.  Grandpa Herrington always made the comment, "That a house won't make you money but a barn will." ha  That big old barn holds lots of memories of my childhood.  Swinging on the stacker ropes up in the hay mow and taking care of cattle and horses in it's stalls.  Thank heavens Mom and Dad thought enough of it to preserve it for many more years of memories.  When life is over folks that is all we take from this earth.... Sweet sweet memories!  Thanks for stopping by!  November is around the corner!   We received some pictures of Jaden and Harry Potter from New Mexico!  Check  them out at the News Page
